Bluetooth headphones are preferred mostly for their portability over their sound quality. Here’s a headphones buying guide on things to look for while buying Bluetooth headphones.
1. Range of Operation
The most advantageous excuse for going wireless is the long-distance operation that it accords for. The truly good wireless headphones will let you connect from rooms away. So you can easily walk away from the source device into a distant garage. If you are into aerobics, these will make it easier for you to listen to hands-free music as long as you can. Thus, while buying, you have to keep in mind, that a headphone has a sufficient enough range that covers at least a room. Some headphones offer a range of 10 feet and above.
Mostly, the lack of wires results in a light-weight product that doesn’t feel like you even have it on your head. A softer padding will take away the uncomfortable ache caused by the ear-shells as well. If you are negating the need for wires, why not go the extra mile and get something that is easy to wear for hours on end? Headphones worn for long hours can be painful, in spite of every assurance of comfort. So, you shouldn’t go for the heavier products if you have to use it for hours on end.
3. Long-Battery Life
A good Bluetooth connection and long battery retention will ensure that you can use it for longer hours. It is painful to take off your headphones in the midst of a match you might be watching, just to recharge it. Some even have an included AUX cable that you can just connect when the battery runs low. The whole point of buying a wireless headphone is wasted if you have to recharge it every few hours. A longer battery life is not just preferable, but essential as well. While some have an added AUX cable to the ensemble, it is better for the range to do without it. A battery life of up to 10 hours and more is commendable. However, 6 or lower than 4 hours is too low.
1. Sound Logic HD – Bluetooth Wireless Headphone (Black)
Headphones without the usual tangle of wires are the blessing of new age technology. The Bluetooth connection of these headphones is stable and distorts very rarely. It can switch seamlessly between devices without having to continuously unplug it from your phone to your laptop to your tablet. However, if there is any scepticism regarding the connectivity, it is also usable with AUX cables, included with the set.
I like the built-in microphones that these headphones are featured with. The calls are amplified due to the natural noise reduction of the headphones.
The FM tuners that this device is equipped with, offers more versatility from the generic playlist. It is easy to fix a station and the static is low as well. However, the lack of wires does not compromise on the music either. I found the bass to be very clear and distinguishable. It has a built-in micro SD card slot. There is no need to dismantle your phone’s memory card to fit in another one. You can slot it directly into the headphones.
Apart from that, it has a chic design which does not feel too heavy. However, the headphones do not have a noise cancellation quality. While it does offer a good noise reduction, it is often not enough.
- This headphone lightweight & foldable and comes with built-in microphones.
- It features high-quality FM tuners and has a clear bass.
- It also has SD card slot.
- No noise-cancellation feature.
2. Envent LiveFun 540 – Over-Ear Bluetooth Headphone with Mic (Black)
If you would choose the best Bluetooth headphones under 1500 based solely on its audio clarity, the Envent LiveFun would be my first recommendation. Built with a Digital Signal Processing Echo Cancellation Technology, the music is completely unhindered and you can enjoy this for a whole 8 hours on the battery power. Even if you manage to exhaust the battery, you can connect the AUX cable provided in the package and continue listening to your music. The range is high and it doesn’t require the source device to be placed just beside it for the connection to work.
Apart from the echo cancellation technology, the Envent LiveFun is also famous for its comfort. It provides one of the best fit among the scores of headphones that I have tried. The device is built with a sliding mechanism that can be easily adjusted. When you are not wearing them, you can fold them to reduce space consumption as well.
Needless to mention, you can use it for calls as well. However, the added advantage is the voice calling technology that this headphone offers. If the voice calling app on the phone is activated, all that is required is the name of the contact to be spoken. You can finish entire calls without even having to touch your phone.
While the product is exemplary, the same cannot be said about the make. While it works well its built appears to be cheap. However, this disadvantage hinders nothing but aesthetics.
- It comes with an echo-cancellation feature.
- It has 8 hours battery life and comes with the latest voice calling technology.
- There is also the added AUX cable with jack.
- The built material is quite poor.
3. Portronics Muffs XT – Wireless Bluetooth Headphone (Red)
The initial impact of this device is in its unique design. The compact, stylish appearance allows a superior preliminary outlook, even when disregarding its usefulness. However, Portronics has never failed to impress with the latter either. The headphones have probably one of the longest battery retentions in the market, playing uninterrupted for more than 10 hours. The Li-ion Polymer batteries, coupled with the Bluetooth 4.1, that it connects with, ensures the extended battery life.
The wireless headphones are built with Echo cancellation and Wind noise reduction features. Both ensure an experience bereft of disturbances. You can use this in the windiest of climates and the noise of the wind will not affect the sound quality. This is particularly useful when you are making a call through the headphones.
It has a long range, extending till 33 feet. This allows a bit more freedom than the most wireless headphones let alone wired ones. You have the controls right on the device, making it easier to control volume and switch the power on or off. Along with these, you can pause the track in-between and change the songs as you please.
It is not the most comfortable device to wear for long hours. As beautiful the design might be, it feels a little awkward, especially when lying down or resting your head.
- It supports Bluetooth 4.1 version.
- Has a range of up to 33 feet.
- It comes with Echo cancellation and Wind noise reduction feature.
- Beautiful but awkward design.
4. Ubon BT-5800 – Stereo Wireless Bluetooth Headphone (Sky Blue)
A headphone is truly not a keeper if you can’t fall asleep with it on. The soft padding of the Ubon BT-5800 allows long hours of usage. The comfort is further enhanced by the adjustable ear shells. It will align itself to your ear shape, unlike an affixed hard muff that hurts the delicate cartilage.
You can oscillate between calls and music or videos with minimum time loss. The connection is stable and easily transferable to any other device. The wireless range extends up to 10 meters. This is probably one of the longest ranges in this price range.
However, the most riveting feature is the noise cancellation. While noise reduction in headphones offers sufficient quality with an added awareness, it does not beat the luxury of true noise cancellation. I could drift off into another world in the midst of a crowded subway. This is accentuated by the closed-back design that ensures complete isolation.
When not in use, fold up the headphones and tuck it into a corner of your bag. The battery retention is not up to the mark in these headphones. It lasts a while. But it could be better as is proven by the previously listed products.
- It provides a long range of up to 10 meters.
- It features Noise-cancellation technology.
- Its closed-back design offers isolation and it is foldable.
- These headphones have a Low battery life.
5. iBall i45 – Stereo Bluetooth Headphone with Mic (Black)
The iBall Headphones are built for long usage, owing to the soft cushion comfort that it offers. The circular design fits comfortably around the ears without any of the harder edges poking the soft ear shells.
Add to this is the shiny and sleek finish of the pair. It is beautiful to look at and gives off an expensive feel that is impressive, to begin with. The battery is rechargeable with the USB cable that is included in the package.
You can find the buttons on the sides of the muffs, making it easy to access. There is even a built-in mic for you to make any calls without interrupting your movie.
Like most Bluetooth headphones, it offers a good sound quality and range. But when you compare it with some of the other products in the market, in the same range, it does not pass scrutiny.
This is good to impress from a distance. On a closer look, I would prefer something with a better bass.
- It has a beautiful finish and is comfortable.
- It has a built-in mic.
- There are easy to access buttons on the headphone.
- It has average bass.
6. Pebble Ultra – Bluetooth Stereo Headphones (Black)
You know that a headphone is truly worth buying when it offers a blaring and clear bass above all else. The Pebble Ultra is the best in bass quality in this list. It is a delight to listen to music with this one. Moreover, you can just look at these headphones and feel the comfort that the cushion muffs provide.
These headphones have a considerably longer operation range of 10 m as well. This is rare in most of the products, but nothing unheard of. A unique quality is the inbuilt camera button. If you have problems reaching the button on your mobile screen, you can just press the one on your headphones instead. The device is foldable and thus, easily portable. It is lightweight as well, making it easy to put on for long hours.
The Bluetooth 3 is not as good at battery retention as the Bluetooth 4.1. Due to this, the battery is easily exhausted in 4 to 6 hours with this headphone. I had to recharge it frequently. You can use it interchangeably with an AUX cable though. This solves the problem of a low battery power.
- Powerful and High-quality bass.
- Long operation range with an inbuilt camera button.
- It is foldable and lightweight.
- It has low battery retention.
7. Sony Extra Bass MDR-XB250 – On-Ear Headphones (Black)
In the field of music systems, Sony always wins the race. So of course, I couldn’t resist tagging my favourite Sony headphone to this list. Sony won’t ever compromise on the sound quality, and this you can feel from the very first note. The bass is incredibly boosted to suit the needs of electronic dance music. It catches the tenor perfectly and nothing is lost in the process.
The headphones are designed with a special duct in the housing which helps to boost the frequencies at the lower-end. Along with that, there is no leakage of sound due to the newly improved seals placed between the driver units. The headphones are built with a rigidity that is neither too high nor too low. It has a high response Extra Bass diaphragm that aids in maintaining the pressure resistance and the amplitude.
Good headphones are always a tad bit uncomfortable. The Sony MDR counteracts the issue with the addition of Pressure Relieving ear pads that cushion the ear even as you blast the music at full volume. The headphones have a high-frequency range of 5 to 22kHz. This ensures that the music is a combination of the perfect rich mid-levels, soaring highs and deep bass.
There is nothing that is truly defective in the design of the product. The manufacturing has been known to yield a few flawed products. However, I have to say that I was completely satisfied with the experience.
- It has a powerful bass for EDM lovers with extra Bass Diaphragm.
- It comes with improved seals that help to trap the sound.
- It has cushioned padding which makes them comfortable to wear.
- None as such
8. Zebronics Happy Head – Bluetooth Wireless Headphones (Grey)
While the design of the Zebronics Happy Head is similar to the Potronics device that I added earlier in the recommendations, it is far more comfortable. The softer padding ensures less pressure and in spite of the elongated shape, it is a comfortable wear. The adjustable headband is a perfect fit for all users, irrespective of the shape of their head. Not all headphones fit everyone and often slide off the head or are not long enough for the muff to cover the ears.
The microphone that is included allows a hands-free operation. It is easy to take and make calls in-between your movies. These are easy to operate with the help of the built-in buttons. You will find them on the headphones easily.
However, this pair is equipped with 250mAh rechargeable batteries. The battery retention is not more than 6 hours. Being entirely wireless, it does not offer the luxury of extended use through added AUX cables either.
- Unique design with comfortable and soft padding.
- Adjustable headband with an inbuilt microphone.
- Low battery life and No AUX cable jack.
So, here it is the top headphones under 1500 under the Bluetooth category. I can list as many products with their own unique features as are available. However, being the user, the only one who can choose the best headphones would be you. What is comfortable for me might not be so, for you.
Therefore, my suggestion is to look carefully and research more, before making your purchase. Always make sure to go for the padded ones. They may feel a bit warm after some time, but they hurt less.
